wayfinding

What is wayfinding and why is it crucial to your show's success?

"The facility is sparkling, an excited crowd is lined up at registration, exhibitors and
session speakers are polished and pumped. What more can a meeting planner ask for?
How about satisfied attendees who find everything they need in an easy and effortless manner, who glide smoothly down the aisles with ample time to engage with exhibitors,
who are rested and alert at each session?"

Humans absorb information in many ways and through all senses in order to understand
our surroundings and make decisions about how to move though it.
This simple psychological fact can often make or break a show.

Great event design integrates architectural elements, permanent and temporary signage/displays, with an understanding of individual human behavior, crowd behavior patterns and human learning styles in order to facilitate the successful movement of guests through an event. This is wayfinding - the sum total of all the visual and sensory cues
that people use to navigate their way in the world.

How do you measure successful wayfinding?
The ultimate test is the level of ease perceived by persons moving through the space.
  • Do they arrive at their destinations easily and effortlessly?
  • Or are they frustrated and distracted by unnecessary effort expended
    to achieve their goals?
  • Will they measure their time spent as quality networking or tedious event working?

At Osmosis Creative, we are experts at wayfinding. We see it as the elusive 2% that
shows up on exit surveys as either a "102% success" or a "98% near miss". And it is critical to success in an industry where every minute of your customer's time is in demand.

Some folks believe that wayfinding is simply akin to leaving a trail of breadcrumbs on the floor. It's a lot more involved than that. Through strategic signage plans, our time-tested quality control on information formats and by choosing visual guidance and orientation devices compatible with a great design concept we turn wayfinding into your
secret marketing weapon.
